Life’s CurveballTiti Olajide Cole
Sometimes in life, we experience life-altering, mind-numbing hits as a result of losses, especially of a child or a loved one. The despair from:
Seeing a loved one die; Personal crisis; Inability to reconnect with loved ones left behind; Inability to understand the roles played by each of your relationships in the on-going story of your life. Sometimes you wonder if there is even a God and if there is, why wouldn’t he answer your plea while you bargained for the life of a dying loved one before they took their last breath. I know this feeling. I mean I walked this path twelve years ago when my family faced the unimaginable loss of our daughter, Ayomide Cole. It began on the 29th of September, 2007 precisely. I remember it like it was yesterday when she got back from daycare with common cold. Having medication for it, it was administered to her. The next day, I kept her home so as to monitor her health and noticed she had lost her appetite. This was one young lady that could eat! So her not eating was a red flag. I took her to the hospital and the doctor prescribed multivitamins for her. It worked and her appetite was revived. Her health steadily improved and by Thursday she was back to her old form (So I thought).
On Thursday, she played with everyone as was her habit and was very friendly with my account officer who visited that night to pick up the daily sales cash from my kiddies store. However, at about 2:30am, i noticed that she was having difficulty breathing. My husband and I rushed her to the hospital and she was placed on intravenous fluid and later on an oxygen concentrator after I called the attention of the medical staff on duty to the fact that her skin was turning purplish. A paediatrician came in about 7.a.m, took a glance at my daughter and began to issue rapid instructions to the staff who in turn scattered in all directions, bringing in several equipment. A defibrillator was used on her without success and at 7.15am on the 3rd of October, 2007 my daughter Ayomide Cole was pronounced dead.
